They say time goes faster when you are having fun, and in the case of my summer placement here at Hive, it couldn’t be any closer to the truth.
Knowing for the last couple of months that I was going to be a member at Hive for a 4 week spell really put me in a good frame of mind about my career prospects. Coming into my final year at university where I am finishing off a mathematics degree, Hive has shown me a life beyond the classroom. Being far away in Illinois for the past four years, this opportunity was something that I felt like I really needed to grasp with both hands.
My task: make a report concerning the growth of our clients. The way I would do this would be by accessing their Xero accounts, making custom reports with some extra Key Performance Indicators embedded within them and then processing them on spreadsheets to examine how everybody was getting on. The numbers that I found were very impressive, to say the least, and I can’t wait for Hive to share them with you all in the not-too-distant future.
Away from the operational side of working life, Hive also has a strong philosophy that I resonate with. Not only does being here give me the opportunity to make mistakes and learn from them, but the team allows me my own space to flourish when I need to. The ubiquity of help on hand where you need it is one of the most rewarding qualities of the position that I have. It’s not always easy – every new task in my life presents its problems – but that is how we grow.
I may be at the doorway of my adult career taking my first steps into a new and exciting world, but I feel I know one thing. It’s an easy equation when you think about it – if your career involves doing something that you are good at, and you enjoy it, you’re always winning. In the future, there can lay a cumbersome amount of ambiguity, but here at Hive, it seems like my adventure through my career and life has become a little more certain. But enough about me: and more about our fantastic and vibrant team.
We were lucky enough to celebrate our 3rd Birthday last week. We all enjoyed the day by listening and presenting our goals and aspirations, but also by appreciating what we have within our organisation. This made the day very worthwhile indeed and it made us all collaborate even better with our purpose here at Hive. Listening to how passionate the rest of the team are about delivering the best possible services to our clients gave me a sense of belonging.
