Xerocon 2024: Key Takeaways from the Ultimate Accounting Conference
An insight into Xero’s future and how we can help to improve our services and to make your life easier.
August 26, 2024

I recently had the chance to attend Xerocon and it wasn’t just an excuse for some accountants to get together, party and collect tote bags, it offered a great insight into Xero’s future and how we can help to improve our services and to make your life easier.
Whilst the core aspects of the event were centered around the accounting service, the key takeaways of innovation and the power of AI heavily mirror the ongoing shifts seen within the dental industry and how you continuously must innovate and adapt to the ever shifting or risk being left behind.

The Power of AI

As the topic of the moment, AI took centre stage at Xerocon with a number of insightful talks from Xero’s own team of expert AI Engineers. They discussed AI’s rapid development and ongoing refinement on a technical level to how different companies are learning to leverage AI to revolutionise their systems and workflow learning to coexist rather than fear. Such as the implementation of Google Gemini to reduce report writing from a multiday task into a 15-minute review process.
Xero itself unveiled its own AI companion JAX (Just ask Xero) not unlike your Alexa or Siri, Jax acts as a companion to assist you in your day-to-day bookkeeping tasks. From being able to simply request information regarding your own spending behavior, or quickly ask it for insights into your business’s finances. Alternatively you could ask how many invoices you have outstanding with a supplier, for more info click here.

Streamlining and Automation

Streamlining and Automation via integration was another major theme at Xerocon, reflecting the importance of seamless systems and connectivity to efficiently complete your work by building an App stack just for you.

  • Building your App Stack – Xero partners with a number of external software developers in order to create an app ecosystem that allows you to thrive from CRM, supplier payments or if you have multiple dental practices, the ability to easily and quickly compare data from your multiple Xero accounts.

Elevating our Role as your accountants

It was highlighted that the role of the accountant in a business is changing and it’s a big change that we are already aware of and working towards by providing our advisory service and continual support to help not just grow your business, but to assist you with directly:

  • Advisory Services: As we work towards increasing efficiency, either through assisting you with your in-house app stack or by completing your bookkeeping, we aim to spend more time developing our strategic services and consulting which will allow you to leverage your up to date data to make the best decisions for you.
  • Continuous Learning: Xero emphasized the importance of ongoing education. Which is something that we plan to deliver via our Associate’s Club portal and weekly blogs which have been designed to provide you with all the information needed to maintain and grow your business.

In conclusion

Xerocon 2024 was a testament to the dynamic and evolving nature of the accounting profession. With innovative product updates, a focus on integration, the elevation of the accountant’s role and sustainability initiatives.
