Google’s parent company surpassed Apple as the world’s most valuable company this week after it released its latest earnings report. The report separated out the results of its Google business including the search engine and YouTube.
Critically, there was a big gain in advertising revenue from “pay per click” advertising (up 31% across the entire internet, and 40% on Google-owned sites) as mobile is taking over more searches and mobile ads are becoming closer in value to desktop and laptop searches.

Google’s decision last year to prioritise mobile-optimised websites in search results on smartphones, boosting sites that are mobile-friendly and demoting those that aren’t is paying off and reflects how people are conducting their searches for information these days. If your website is not mobile-friendly you may have been pushed several results down the page— or worst case, off the first page entirely.
