Social media can be a mystical minefield, but social media needn’t be such an enigma; when it comes to your business… it’s really quite straightforward.
To get yourself started:
- Pick a social media platform that is suitable for your business
- Update it regularly
- Interact with your followers/ patients
Sounds simple enough; but who really has the time to sit and monitor social media accounts all day? Luckily, you can almost guarantee that for any tech related issue there is a wonderful nerd somewhere who has solved it and made a solution (note: I salute you nerds). I’d like to introduce you to my new best friend: HootSuite.
Here is my basic guide to using the social management tool of your dreams:
- Set it up for FREE – The free account is pretty great, you can schedule your posts to up to 3 social media platforms and can view and export previous posts too; all in one place.
- Shorten those posts – How and why Twitter want to confine you to just 140 characters is beyond me, but confine they do, so HootSuite very cleverly shortens those links in your tweets giving you more space to add your own message.
- Track your impact – If you’ve got a business page on Facebook you’ll see the analytics part when you visit your page. This lets you see the number of people you’ve reached and other creepy information like how many people have clicked etc. Hootsuite takes this to the next level (on the paid account) and gives you some helpful graphs to compare your impact.
- Keep it all in one place – I like to have one tab for the latest posts for each of our accounts and a tab for previous posts so I can check there’s been enough activity for the day.
It’s been a massive time saver for me and I am finding out new things about it every day. Beware it is very addictive and you will notice an increase in customer engagement so be ready for the influx of enquiries too.
