Why bother? Blogs help us stand out from the crowd and engage your audience and be the relevant voice in a sea of dullard professionals.
Many of our clients suffer from the same problems and make the same mistakes. Often you start a blog, have a good couple of weeks of interesting, informative and well-considered articles and blogs. Not long after, the honeymoon period is over, and you struggle to keep up the momentum. It seems like a big task. Suddenly you have stopped having things to say.
To help you get over the initial hurdle, here are a few pointers:
- You don’t have to be literary genius – write like your having a conversation with your friend.
- The content doesn’t need to be complicated or technical.
- It doesn’t have to be really long.
- You can answer client questions or frequent topics that pop up – just expand slightly on it.
- It can be commentary or opinion on a current topic – you don’t have to generate the topic yourself. If you read the news and are interested in something, just give your opinion on it or another perspective. If you still can’t think of anything, just read the Daily Mail and write about how badly they’ve reported an important topic!
- It really can take 5 minutes. Don’t think too much. Again, imagine you’re speaking out loud or telling a friend.
- If you’re stuck on how to begin, start in the middle, it’s a good way to get going. The beginning will emerge!
- Make it into a ‘top 5’ or ‘top 10’ or top whatever. A simple list with a brief explanation is as good as anything – these also tend to get the most interest. Your readers know exactly where they are at any given moment – they can read the headlines, and pick up some really useful information.
