Did you watch “How the Rich Avoid Tax” on Channel 4 last night? We asked Ross what he thought of the documentary.

I watched Dispatches on C4 last night, primarily out of professional curiosity. I catch the odd program on this topic from time to time but this one seemed to be more prominently advertised to me over the last week. (Although perhaps it is just because we have a new season of Phil and Kirsty??).

It is clear the amount of “effort” that the media seems to want to throw behind the morality campaign. Greg Wise (and his production) pieced together commentary from some esteemed sources but I must admit I wasn’t quite sure of the “point” of the program.

With the undercover footage, it felt as though they were looking for an expose but no substantive conclusions were reached, rather just a forced message that saving tax was wrong. At least the nonsensical arguments about how much tax should be paid on turnover were absent.

Oddly, no sooner than we got going, the message abruptly stopped. It seemed to be no more than a 30-minute stocking filler for a quiet day in early February.
